PZL Mielec announced today it has signed an agreement to produce airframe components for Eclipse Aerospace, Inc., contingent upon the launch of Eclipse 550 jet production. Major components include the fuselage, empennage and wings for the Eclipse 550 jet. PZL Mielec would manufacture these components in Poland and ship them to Eclipse’s facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, for final assembly and delivery to customers once Eclipse officially starts production. PZL Mielec is an affiliate of Sikorsky Aircraft, which is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.

The New England chapter of the American Lung Association has awarded Pratt & Whitney (P&W) the Healthy Air Ambassador Corporate Award for demonstrating a commitment to clean air through environmentally sound practices and a dedication to healthy lungs for all. The award was accepted at a ceremony held at the Riverview in Simsbury.

Monarch Airlines selected Pratt & Whitney’s fuel conservation program, EcoFlight Solutions, reaching a 5-year agreement. The EcoFlight Solutions team has already commenced work with Monarch Airlines to develop and implement fuel-saving solutions for the airline’s fleet of 32 aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne upperstage propulsion successfully orbited the second in a series of Advanced Extremely High-Frequency (AEHF) communications satellites for the U.S. military, once again demonstrating the consistent reliability of its power and propulsion systems. The spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida by a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. The Atlas V is powered by the RD AMROSS RD-180 booster engine, and the upper-stage is powered by the Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne RL10 engine.
Sikorsky Aircraft and Terma have announced they have extended and broadened their previously announced Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore additional potential collaborations on aircraft programs. Both the original MOU, signed in February 2010, and the new MOU are conditioned on the Danish government’s decision to procure Sikorsky MH-60R SEAHAWK® helicopters via a Foreign Military Sale with the U.S. Government, which is currently under consideration.

The Pratt & Whitney PurePower® PW1200G engine successfully completed its first flight on April 30, launching the engine family’s flight test program. The PW1217G engine for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft flew on a specially designed stub wing aboard Pratt & Whitney’s Boeing 747SP flying test bed at the company’s Mirabel Aerospace Centre, in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada.
